I tend to use 8mm for hook sizes 10, 8, and 6.
It’s a bit stiffer than I’d like, so it works best when wet and carefully palmered.
The fly shown in the photo is tied without palmering so you can better see the material’s natural volume (on a #8 440BL). The tail is made with Simi Zonker in black/grey—an excellent choice for larger leech patterns thanks to its durability and lifelike movement.
