Excellent for all types of fly tying, especially perfect for soft hackles.
Grouse feathers can easily be used as a substitute for pheasant feathers, offering much the same qualities. Jack Gartside designed some excellent patterns that use only pheasant feathers—just swap in comparable grouse feathers and they’ll work beautifully. One of my favorites to tie and fish is his Sparrow fly.
