**** look up Kiwi Muddlers: A large fly tied with a magnum zonker strip. It is a game-changer on slow fishing days when targeting char, brown trout, and steelhead.
Because a magnum strip is cut much wider than a standard zonker strip ( 1/4 inch wide compared to the standard 1/8 inch), the thick, hide-back hide naturally forces itself to cupping or semi-wrapping around the hook shank when you pull it taut and tie it down.
This structural quirk gives the fly a few advantages:
- Built-in Bulk: It instantly creates a wide, realistic, three-dimensional baitfish profile without needing you to build up a massive body underneath with extra materials.
